Kingsmen Advance To Quarterfinals

Dennis Murphy's 2 run walk off home run gave Kings Park a 5-3 win over Riverhead on Wednesday's first round playoff game. Mike Pearse singled to lead off the 8th inning and then stole second base. Murphy then hit a 3 & 2 fastball out to right field. Bobby Haney (3-3 2 runs RBI SB) hit a solo homer to left center in the 4th to put KP up 1-0. The home run was Haney's 11 in his career which broke the school record of 10. Kings Park scored another run in th 5th when Adam Melanson walked, Bryan McCarthy pinch ran for Melanson, and was bunted to second by Rob Goldstein. McCarthy then stole third and scored on a throwing error by the cather. Kings Park tacked on a third run in the 6th when Haney singled to center stole second went to third on a single by Nick Wiwczar and scored on a wild pitch.
Adam Melanson pitched 6 plus strong innings but got a no decision after giving up 3 runs in the 7th. Melanson gave up 4 hits with 7 strike outs and walked only 1. Reggie Smith relieved Melanson in the 7th and pitched a scoreless 8th to pick up the win.
